Committee Introduction: In 1945, under the founding documents of the United Nations (UN), The Charter of the United Nations General Assembly (GA) was established. The Third Committee – the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) – also referred to as the Third Committee of the General Assembly (GA3) was established in 1947 with its headquarters located in New York City. This committee is responsible for resolving humanitarian affairs and crises, social matters, as well as human rights violations around the world.
